NVIDIA GeForce
GTX is the older line and RTX is the newer one, with hardware for ray tracing. The first digits are the generation, so an RTX 3060 is from the 30 series and an RTX 4060 is from the 40 series. The last two digits show the rung in that generation: within one generation a higher number is a faster card.
- Ti and Super mean a faster version of the same card.
- Laptop GPU (or Max-Q) is the lower-power laptop version. It is slower than the desktop card with the same number.
- MX is a small, entry level laptop chip.
AMD Radeon
Radeon RX followed by four digits is a separate graphics card. As with NVIDIA, the first digits are the generation and a higher number in the same generation is faster. XT is a faster version of the card without it.
Names that say only Radeon Graphics, or a number ending in M such as 780M, are built into Ryzen processors.
Intel
- UHD Graphics and Iris Xe are built into Intel processors.
- Arc followed by a letter and three digits, such as A380 or A750, is a separate graphics card.
- A plain Arc Graphics name is the built-in graphics in some newer laptop processors.
Apple
The graphics are part of the M-series chip: M1, M2, M3 and so on. Pro, Max and Ultra versions have more graphics cores than the base chip.
Phones and tablets
Adreno is the graphics in Qualcomm Snapdragon chips. Mali comes from Arm and is used in many phones from other makers. iPhones and iPads use Apple's own.
Comparing across brands
The numbers mean something inside one maker's range and nothing across makers. An AMD 6600 and an NVIDIA 3060 are not equals because the digits match. Use a benchmark chart for that.
